Claire McCallick, a senior from Kamiak High School, recently attended the Honeywell Leadership Challenge Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The program aims to inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Application to the program was open the children of full-time Honeywell employees at the company’s locations around the world.

“It was amazing to meet such a diverse group at the academy, so many languages. Kids would speak French and Spanish at the dinner table for fun,” McCallick wrote. “I experienced every perspective on a variety of cultures, their expressions and traditional food all in one town. We compared how our countries handle Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day and religious holidays. Now, I can keep up with my new friends from thirty-five countries around the world on social media.”

McCallick is waiting to hear back from a few colleges. She plans to pursue business and computer science.
