WAYS TO HELP

Alzheimer’s group needs volunteers

The Alzheimer’s Association is recruiting local volunteers to run a Younger-Onset Family Caregiver Support Group in Lynnwood. The group offers support to those who are providing care to a person with younger-onset memory loss (diagnosed by age 65 or younger).

Volunteers receive training, ongoing support, resources and continuing education opportunities. They can include working or retired social workers, nurses and other health care professionals, educators, clergy, counselors and former family caregivers. Commitment of at least one year is required.

Seniors: RSVP to help

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), sponsored by Catholic Community Services, seeks people ages 55 and older for volunteer positions, such as drivers, peer-to-peer counselors, student mentors, food bank workers and more. HEADS UP

Wenberg weekend opening

Construction at Snohomish County’s Wenberg Park will pause over the Memorial Day weekend, from Friday through Monday, to allow people use of the boat launch. The park is undergoing a major renovation that’s expected to continue through September.

A second opening is planned for Independence Day, from July 4 through July 8.

Everett park needs a name

A 1.2-acre park in the Glacier View neighborhood near the new YMCA on Colby Avenue needs a name. There’s plenty of planning and work ahead for the playground and fitness equipment, rain garden, plaza, open space and a walking path. Name submissions are due by June 7.

Next to the park will be a new YMCA, currently under construction. An agreement between the city and YMCA of Snohomish County will make the pool available to non-YMCA members during certain hours.
