Get the buzz about bees

Learn more about the disappearance of bees and about what goes on in a beehive at a free screening of “Queen of the Sun,” 5 p.m. Wednesday at Edmonds Community College’s Black Box Theatre, 20310 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood.

For a suggested donation of $5, receive a handmade bar of soap or beeswax food wrap. There will be honey for sale to benefit the EdCC Bee Club.

TEDx comes to North Creek

North Creek High School students are organizing a TEDxYouth@NorthCreek conference, 5 to 7:30 p.m. June 6. This free public event will feature the theme “Worlds Beyond.” Speakers include local teens known for their art, research and social advocacy, among other topics.

Tickets are free but limited. Donations will be accepted; the suggested donation is $5.

Open mic in Stanwood

Rollin’ for a Cause

Jet City Roller Derby holds a comedy show and auction fundraiser, Rollin’ for a Cause, 6 p.m. June 2 at the Northwest Music Hall, 1402 SE Everett Mall Way, inside the Everett Mall. Tickets are $20.

Make blankets for kids

The Binky Patrol, a group of quilters, knitters and crocheters who make “binkies” for children in traumatic situations, holds its next work party June 3 (first Sunday, second Sunday if a holiday) in Marysville.

Project Linus also makes quilts and blankets for children. The next Project Linus event is set for 12:30-2:30 p.m. June 12 (second Tuesday) at the Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave. Materials and equipment are provided. Bring a sewing machine if you have one.

Vendors needed for trunk show

The Lake Stevens Senior Center plans a Junk in the Trunk swap meet for July 14 at 2302 Soper Hill Road. Vendors are needed. Cost is $25 for a space across two parking stalls, or $25 for an 8-foot table inside the building. Applications will be taken until July 6.

Poster contest for Bird Fest

Puget Sound-area artists can submit original artwork for consideration for the 2018 Puget Sound Bird Fest poster. The festival is Sept. 14-16 in Edmonds. This year’s Bird Fest theme is “Eagles in the Pacific Northwest.”

The poster format is 11-by-17-inch, portrait orientation. A $200 prize will be awarded to the winner. No photography or digital art. Deadline for entries is June 22.
