ARLINGTON — A man with a gunshot wound was found at the scene of a suspicious house fire southeast of Arlington Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called around 3:30 p.m. for a column of smoke rising in the 9000 block of 164th Street NE, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

Crews battled flames that spread from a shop to the house, Fire District 21 Chief Chad Schmidt said.

Sheriff’s deputies also responded.

Firefighters found a man who had an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office. The man was being treated for life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Schmidt said.

The fire was considered suspicious. County fire investigators were called in to determine its cause.
