Kick off the Fourth on the third

The Mountlake Terrace “3rd of July” celebration is planned for 3 to 11 p.m. Tuesday at Ballinger Park. The annual event is sponsored by the Cheeseburger Babies Foundation, with the help of local donors. There will be games, pony rides, bouncy houses, a pie-eating contest and much more, along with a live music stage and food vendors, with a fireworks finale over the lake.

Parking with shuttle service is at the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center (6001 236th Street SW) and Creekside Church (7011 226th Place SW). Parking also is at the Nile Country Club (6601 244th Street SW).

Rock out at the library

Kids are invited to a “Geology Rocks!” workshop with the Everett Rock and Gem Club at two local libraries this week: 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Monroe Library (1070 Village Way) and 4 p.m. Friday at the Snohomish Library (311 Maple Ave.). Make your own fossil impressions and break open a geode.

Blood drive in Marysville

Bloodworks NW holds a blood drive, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the south parking lot of the Marysville Police Department, 1635 Grove St.

Charity yard sale

The Marysville Police Department holds a yard sale to benefit Marysville Community Food Bank’s “Food for Thought” Backpack Program, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, at 1635 Grove St. Clean out your closets and donate items the morning of the sale, or come and shop — or both.

Volunteer for tourism board

Snohomish County is looking to appoint four volunteer advisors to openings on the Tourism Promotion Area Board. The board makes recommendations about spending a special assessment to encourage visitors.

The 14-person board meets the third Tuesday each month at Willis Tucker Community Park. The openings are available to people in the Everett area as well as south and east Snohomish County.

Radio tax ballot committees

Snohomish County is forming committees to write pro and con statements for a proposed 0.1 sales tax to pay for replacing emergency radio systems for first responders.
