SEATTLE — Edwin Diaz of the Seattle Mariners has been named the American League Reliever of the Month for June.

It’s the second time Diaz has been honored this season. He also won for April.

In June, Diaz converted 12 of 13 save opportunities and posted a 1.88 ERA. In 14 relief appearances he pitched 14 1/3 innings, struck out 20 and walked two. The 6-foot-3, 165-pound right-hander averaged 12.56 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

Diaz, who leads the majors with 32 saves, led all AL relievers in saves during the month of June, and the Mariners were 14-0 in the games in which he pitched.

Overall this season, Diaz has converted 32 of 35 save opportunities with a 2.45 ERA, 71 strikeouts and 13 walks in 44 innings.
