The Everett Silvertips announced Tuesday that James Jensen has been hired as the team’s goaltending coach, rounding out Everett’s staff for the 2018-19 season.

Jensen replaces Shane Clifford, who left to coach the netminders for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.

Jensen has mainly served as a private and consulting goaltending coach to this point in his 20-year career, and is on staff at NET360, an annual camp in West Kelowna, British Columbia that draws both NHL and lower-level prospect backstops. He has worked with NHL goaltenders Devan Dubnyk (Minnesota Wild), Frederik Andersen (Toronto Maple Leafs) and James Reimer (Florida Panthers), according to a Silvertips press release.

“This is a perfect fit for me, moving forward as a goaltending coach,” Jensen said in the press release. “The WHL/CHL is the greatest league in the world to showcase the talents of 16-20 year-olds and a big element of my intentions as a coach is to advance the careers of the game’s best.”

Jensen has also served as a goaltending consultant with the Los Angeles Jr. Kings, where he worked with current Silvertip Dustin Wolf, the leading contender to replace Carter Hart as the first-choice goalie for Everett.

“(Jensen) is a highly respected individual throughout our game who carries a reputation of positively impacting the careers of goaltenders, all the way up to those playing in the National Hockey League,” Everett general manager Garry Davidson said. “His modern and innovative approach to instruction makes us look forward to connecting him with our goaltending potential in the organization.”
