Police training

The Everett Police Department plans training that will include the sounds of gunfire from about 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The location is the police range near Forest Park.

OPPORTUNITIES

Bothell Care Day

A Care Day is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28 at Northshore Middle School. Help by donating new shoes, hygiene items such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste and school supplies for children such as coloring books, crayons, pencils and markers. Care Day is a one-day resource fair for those living in poverty in the area.

Smoke alarms

The American Red Cross in Snohomish County plans Sound the Alarm, a home fire safety and free smoke alarm installation event scheduled in Everett on April 27. If you or someone you know who cannot purchase a smoke alarm or are physically unable to install a smoke alarm, you can sign up at GetASmokeAlarm.org, 425-740-2318.

Help with chores, errands

Volunteer Services, a program of Catholic Community Services, seeks volunteers to assist with household chores, yard care, transportation and other tasks that enable elders, veterans and adults with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes. Volunteers typically serve two to eight hours per month.

Tutors needed at EvCC

Everett Community College’s Volunteer Literacy Program seeks volunteers who can tutor adults learning basic reading, writing and math skills and students learning English. An informal interview and a training workshop are required.

A variety of free support groups and fee-based health classes are offered at Swedish Edmonds Hospital, 21601 76th Ave. W., Edmonds.

MEETINGS

Whidbey Island Genealogical Searchers meetings are held 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Heller Road Fire Station in Oak Harbor. More info: whidbeygensearchers.org.
