Mukilteo meeting

The Mukilteo City Council will have a work session is at 6 p.m. Monday at City Council Chambers, 11930 Cyrus Way. The agenda includes a discussion about the current form of government. The infrastructure committee will also meet.

Senior breakfast

The 2019 Lifetime Achievement Breakfast, a fundraiser for the Stillaguamish Senior Center, will honor Mary Jean Kraski and her service to the Arlington community. It is set for 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington.

All about beavers

Learn all about beavers at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Northwest Stream Center in Snohomish County’s McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.

The event includes a screening of the 31-minute IMAX movie “Beavers” about an industrious beaver family creating an aquatic habitat that they share with all kinds of wildlife. This event is appropriate for first graders to adults.

Reservations are required. Cost is $5 for members, $7 for non-members.

Spring forward

Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett, is having a spring garden open house 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

There will be appetizers and displays in the horticultural classroom. Pick up a brochure and a game card, then wander through the arboretum. Fill in the card for a free plant to take home. David Lee Howard performs on acoustic guitar. See the new gardens and art. Learn about all the programs offered all year. Sign up to volunteer. The event is free.

Self-defense class for girls

Young women are invited to the Mukilteo Library to learn self-defense and to assertively set boundaries. The class is open to girls ages 11 to 18, and is set for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. May 14.

Michelle McVadon is teaching the class, and is a fifth-degree black belt and chief instructor at Seven Star Women’s Kung Fu in Seattle.

Class size is limited. Register online. The library is at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

OPPORTUNITY

Teen community service

Students in grades six through 12 can gain volunteer hours by helping out at the Mukilteo Library, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on May 4, at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

There is no need to sign up, just go to the teen area. Those who join are expected to help out with tasks including setting up for craft events, cleaning up and sorting books.
