EVERETT — A 33-year-old Everett man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly attacking patrol officers with glass beer bottles and pepper spray, according to a police report.
Shortly before 2 a.m., the suspect reportedly threw his bicycle onto the street in front of an officer’s vehicle in the 2600 block of Everett Avenue. He then reportedly threw a glass beer bottle at the patrol car and chased after it. He was holding two more bottles, “swinging them wildly,” court papers say.
He then ran away, and two Everett officers gave chase. The suspect turned around and allegedly pepper sprayed them — mostly missing his targets, but still causing irritation to their eyes and lungs.
Police reportedly saw that the man also was holding a green pocketknife.
He ran across Everett Avenue and, on the other side, he tried to pepper spray the officers again, according to the police report. This time, they fired stun guns and brought him to the ground.
The suspect allegedly struggled as he was arrested. He planted his legs on the frame of the patrol car and pushed off as police attempted to force him inside, court papers say. And he reportedly headbutted one officer in the jaw.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of third-degree assault against police.
He was convicted twice in 2018 of firearms-related crimes in Whatcom County. He resisted arrest in one of those cases.
His bail was set in Everett District Court at $40,000.
