Everett’s Team Phoinix headed to the International Powerlifing Federation’s World Masters Powerlifting Championships on Oct. 7-12 in Potchefstroom, South Africa, and came back with a mess of medals.
The five women from the team based out of EGO Strength and Performance combined to claim 20 medals at the competition for lifters aged 40 or older.
Two members of the squad earned gold in all four disciplines. Page won gold in squat and silvers in bench press and deadlift, while Hansford won gold in squat, silver in deadlift and bronze in bench press. Becky Meister of Everett (Master 1, 84-kilogram) won bronze in all three lifts and overall in her division.
Local golfers part of Hudson Cup success
A pair of players representing Snohomish County helped the amateur team defeat the professional team to win the 28th edition of the Senior Hudson Cup, held last Thursday and Friday at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Oregon.
Jeff Strickland and Alex Stamey, both representing Everett Golf & Country Club, were members of the team of amateurs that defeated the team of pros 10.5 to 9.5 in a competition that pits the top pros and amateurs from Washington and Oregon. Strickland was part of two points, winning a four-ball point and a singles point. Walter Hall Golf Course pro Wayne Clark earned foursome and singles points for the pros.
In the 71st edition of the Hudson Cup, which took place simultaneously at Arrowhead, locals Jake Koppenberg and David Hansen helped the Amateur team earn a 10-10 tie. Both Koppenberg, an Everett High School graduate, and Hansen, representing Pro Golf Discount in Lynnwood, earned two points, with Koppenberg’s coming in foursome and four-ball and Hansen’s coming in four-ball and singles.
