MONROE — Rescue teams helped three people in two vehicles who got trapped on a flooded street after they tried to drive through high water Monday morning south of Monroe, according to Snohomish County Fire District 7.

One man was stuck inside a car around 6 a.m. in the 20900 block of Crescent Lake Road, with water up to his knees, according to Fire District 7.

A rescue team used an inflatable boat to get to him.

Rescuers soon realized the man wasn’t the one who called 911. They went back to find a pickup truck had been swept off the road and almost totally submerged. Two people had climbed onto the roof of the truck, awaiting rescue.

No one was hurt. But the incidents served as a reminder for drivers that flooded roads should be taken seriously — especially with the potential for more river flooding in the forecast for later this week. Pay attention to road closure signs, and don’t drive around barricades, District 7 spokeswoman Heather Chadwick wrote in a press release.

“There can be many hidden dangers beneath the water such as debris, pot holes, or the road could be completely washed away,” Chadwick wrote. “Furthermore, water is powerful and as we saw this morning, can sweep vehicles completely off the roadway.”
