AquaSox blast 4 homers, beat Dust Devils for series split

EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox blasted four home runs and earned a series split with an 11-8 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils in Sunday’s series finale at Funko Field.

Joseph Rosa, Jack Larsen, Patrick Frick and Cody Grosse each homered for the High-A West-leading AquaSox (42-22), who won the final two games of the six-game series to salvage a split with the last-place Dust Devils. Everett finished the game with 10 extra-base hits and 13 total hits.

The AquaSox led 7-0 through four innings, but Tri-City (25-40) scored five runs in the top of the fifth to cut the margin to 7-5. Then after the teams traded a pair of runs, Frick and Grosse each hit a solo homer in the sixth to extend Everett’s lead to 11-7.

Frick finished 3-for-4 with a home run and a double. Larsen went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double. Connor Hoover was 2-for-4 with two doubles for the AquaSox.

Taylor Dollard started for Everett and pitched five innings, allowing seven runs and 10 hits. AquaSox relievers Ben Onyshko, Bryan Pall and David Ellingson settled things down out of the bullpen, limiting the Dust Devils to one run in a combined four innings of work.

Brendon Davis and Franklin Torres each had three hits for Tri-City, which finished with 15 hits but stranded 10 runners on base. Starting pitcher Ryan Smith struggled on the mound for the Dust Devils, allowing six runs and six hits in three innings.

Next up for Everett is a six-game road series against the Vancouver Canadians in Hillsboro, Oregon.
