SPOKANE — The Everett AquaSox fell in a nine-run hole after just two innings and lost the opening game of a six-game road series with the Spokane Indians 9-1 on Tuesday night at Avista Stadium.

Bernie Martinez allowed the brunt of the damage for the AquaSox. Martinez gave up nine runs, all earned, on seven hits in only one inning of work. Everett’s bullpen, however, turned in a strong performance. Fred Villarreal, Travis Kuhn, Kyle Hill and Bryan Pall combined to allow no runs on just five hits over the final seven innings.

Everett (51-27) did not fare much better in the game at the plate. The AquaSox managed just seven hits, but did get a solo home run from Dariel Gomez in the fourth inning. Gomez finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and Kennie Taylor also added a double.

Isaac Collins, Niko Decolati and Colton Welker all homered in the game for Spokane (38-41).
