EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox rode stellar pitching and a six-run third inning to an 8-1 win over the Spokane Indians on Wednesday evening at Funko Field.
The win, combined with the Eugene Emeralds’ 3-1 loss to the Tri-City Dust Devils, allowed the AquaSox to regain sole possession of first place in the High-A West standings.
Six Everett pitchers combined to allow only one earned run on five hits while striking out 13 hitters and walking none. Peyton Alford led the way with four punchouts in two innings, Bernie Martinez struck out three in his two innings of work, and Jarod Bayless struck out the side in the ninth inning to close the game.
Justin Lavey had a two-run double and Cody Grosse added a two-run single to key the big third inning as the AquaSox took a 7-0 lead.
Grosse finished with two hits and two RBI, and Dariel Gomez went 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs batted in to lead the Everett (57-40) offense.
Niko Decolati doubled and drove in the lone run for Spokane (52-45).
