Great Plant Pick: Sedum oreganum aka Oregon stonecrop

What: The diminutive succulent leaves of Oregon stonecrop are bright green — sometimes with a cherry red to burgundy blush — with golden yellow flowers on stems 2 to 6 inches tall. The evergreen foliage is only a few inches in height but spreads 18 or more inches. This nubbly native makes a great, very low-growing perennial for sunny sites in the garden.

Where: Plant Sedum oreganum in well-drained soil and full sun for best growth.

Size: This evergreen will grow to 2 inches tall and spead to 1½ feet in 10 years.

Care: Oregon stonecrop needs watering only once a month or so during the dry season.
