EVERETT — It could be slow-going through downtown Everett this weekend as crews work on northbound I-5 this weekend.

Northbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane starting 9 p.m. Friday.

The lane reduction will end at 6 a.m. Monday.

Reductions will start past the 41st Street exit. The off-ramp to 41st Street will be the last Everett exit open. The 41st Street on-ramp will be open too.

Northbound off-ramps to Pacific Avenue and Marine View Drive will be closed. On-ramps at Everett Avenue and U.S. 2 will also be closed. Detours will be marked with signs.

The lane closure is weather-dependent — and the forecast is for clear skies. The lanes were supposed to be closed last weekend, but the work was delayed a week because of the weather.

The state Department of Transportation is asking travelers to consider using alternate routes, like Highway 9.

The closure will allow work crews to “replace asphalt with concrete on the right side of the freeway north of Pacific Avenue.”

The work is part of a $123.1 million project to add a carpool lane from Everett to Marysville.
