COLFAX — A man accused of shooting a woman with a blow dart on the campus of Washington State University and also hitting a man with a dart while he was out walking in Pullman made his first court appearance Thursday in Whitman County on assault charges.

KREM reports Joseph Gillies, 18, of Tacoma, was released from jail until his next court appearance at the end of the month.

Gillies told KREM he was sorry for the dart attacks but offered no explanation other than saying, “I’m a moron.”

He’s accused of darting a woman on campus Jan. 12 and a man in Pullman. He’s also suspected of four similar blow dart assaults the same day in Ellensburg.

Tips and surveillance video led to Gillies’ arrest Wednesday in Ellensburg.
