Fancy crosswalks wearing out in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM — Four years ago decorative crosswalks were installed at six intersections in Bellingham as part of a “streetscape” project.
The Bellingham Herald reports they cost nearly $20,000 per intersection, compared with about $4,500 for standard crosswalk markings.
The decorative crosswalks were expected to last six to eight years, but tires have already worn through them.
The warranty has expired. The company responsible for the installation says it will evaluate the situation.
