BOTHELL — Megan Cross buried a clutch 3-pointer with under a minute to play to give Lynnwood the lead and eventually a 64-58 nonleague victory over Jackson Thursday night.

Cross finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and two steals to lead four double-figure scorers for the Royals. Jazmine Edwards and Linda Wilson added 12 points apiece and Casey Evans had 10. Wilson also had seven rebounds to lead the team.

In a game that was close throughout, Lynnwood head coach Everett Edwards placed much of the credit on his team’s defensive effort.

“We went with full court pressure for a good portion of the game and toward the end we made some key stops,” Edwards said about the defense.

Jackson was led by the hot-shooting of sophomore guard Sierra Anderson, who finished with 24 points. Kristin Stoffel chipped in 10.

“Anderson came out and made a couple of threes early and was really hot shooting the ball,” Edwards said of the Jackson guard. “We made a couple of adjustments to double-team her … we were able to keep her from scoring in the final minutes.”

Lynnwood did an effective job of running different defensive looks at the Timberwolves, including full-court pressure and half-court traps that kept Jackson off-balance. That allowed the Royals to build a 47-43 lead after trailing at the half 29-28.

In the fourth quarter, the two teams went back-and-forth trading control of the lead until Lynnwood’s Cross put her team ahead for good in the final minute.

With the first win of the season under its belt, Lynnwood will begin its conference season on Saturday against Mountlake Terrace.
