The Everett Mall was evacuated Thursday evening when a small fire broke out in the Shoe Stop repair store near Sears.
No one was injured in the fire.
Everett Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Parker said the fire was contained to the shop, but it created lots of smoke that wafted through the mall.
Fire department crews were still on the scene before midnight trying to clear the smoke from the shopping mall.
The fire probably caused about $10,000 damage to the shoe repair shop, but the smoke damage to the nearby clothing stores could be much more, Parker said.
“That smoke is going to linger for some time,” he said.
