Import draft set

Thanks to Alan Caldwell (link on left) for the heads up on this one. The selection order for this year’s CHL import draft has been set. This year’s sequence sees the QMJHL pick first, WHL second and OHL third. Therefore, Everett will be picking 17th overall (Regina’s pick acquired via trade last year) and 20th overall (the Tips’ own pick).
Everett will be using both its picks as the Tips only had one European player last season (forward Daniel Bartek) and he was an overager, meaning both of the team’s Euro slots are currently vacant. With two picks in the top third of the first round Everett should be able to land contributing players — or maybe it’s more accurate to say the Tips have a better chance at landing a contributing player. The import draft, of course, is a roll of the dice. But at least the dice are stacked somewhat in Everett’s favor.
