When Meadowdale’s football team takes the field in the fall, the Mavericks can brag that they are led by a hall of famer.

Mark Stewart, the Mavs’ head coach since 2000, will be inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in November along with four other individuals and two crew teams.

Stewart, a first-team All-American at outside linebacker in 1982, will be inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame along with fellow football player Blair Bush, soccer player Hope Solo, baseball player Chris Magruder, tennis coach Mary DeLay and the national champion men’s and women’s varsity eight boats from 1997.

“Once you’ve been there, you always feel so connected, and it’s nice to be recognized for what you did at the university,” said Stewart, who led Meadowdale to the Class 3A state quarterfinals last season. “It’s an honor to be going in with all of these other great athletes.”

In 1982, Stewart set school records for sacks in a game with five against UCLA and fumbles caused in a season with five. He was a fifth-round draft pick by Minnesota and played two seasons with the Vikings.

“When I think about all the guys I played with, it’s such a team sport,” said Stewart. “We had some great years and I just happened to be part of a great group.”
