Music Mondays: Flight of the Conchords, Billy Bragg

In my column this week, I reviewed the soundtrack to the HBO series, “Flight of the Conchords,” and Billy Bragg’s new album.

Here’s some songs from each album, so you can judge for yourself.

Flight of the Conchords, soundtrack

“Business Time” — Lampooning Barry White — or is he paying homage? — Jemaine Clement sings about the mid-week mating dance.

“Bowie” — In this song, David Bowie is a freaky old bastard who likes using the word “man.” “How far out are you man?” “I’m pretty far out.” “That’s pretty far out man.”

Billy Bragg, “Mr Love &Justice”

“O Freedom” — Billy Bragg notes that “liberties” are taken in the name of freedom. Get it? Eh?

“You Make Me Brave” — This song’s not horrible, but the last verses, about living for the today but being nervous about the future, sort of irk me, for some reason.
