Girl Scouts are selling cookies

Girl Scouts will be out and about selling cookies through March 16. All eight varieties have no trans fat, and there is a sugar-free chocolate chip this year.

The girls are raising money for camp, field trips and service projects.

And if you don’t want to eat the cookies, buy a box for the Operation Cookie Drop-Gift of Caring project, which delivers cookies to folks in the military.

The goodies cost $4 a box.

Scholarships for students available

Students can apply for more than 150 scholarships through the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation.

The scholarships, about $1,000 each, are funded by more than 50 organizations, businesses and families in and around Stanwood and Camano Island, said Theresa Metzger, executive director of the foundation. Last year, scholarships were awarded to every student who applied, she said.

Applications are due by March 14. Downloadable applications are scheduled to be posted Friday on the foundation’s Web site at www.s-ccs.org.
