Marysville church offers youth concert

MARYSVILLE — Revolution Youth Church has begun to earn a reputation as a venue for independent and alternative Christian rock, part of a growing national trend among youth groups that crosses the classical divisions between contemporary Christian music and the secular alternative music scene.
The church plans a youth concert 7 p.m. Feb. 29 featuring The Bear Market, The Oregon Donor, Megasapien and Friends of Issac.
“There is a need locally for places where these kids can go and perform in a safe environment,” said youth pastor Josh Webb. “We are a good venue for these bands.”
The last concert held at Marysville First Assembly was Halloween 2007, which saw more than 200 teens and alternative rock fans piled into the church on Grove Street and was considered by Webb to be a success, not only for the church but also for the local music scene.
“For what we lacked, multimedia and special lighting, the reaction from band members were overwhelmingly positive about the show,” Webb said.
The Feb. 29 concert is another step taken by the church to reach out to the area’s young people.
“Our church has been great, the teens have been great, and the bands have been great,” Webb said. “We’re looking forward to what Jesus is going to do.”
