TALKING POINTS
This one just wasn’t meant to be for Everett. Regina goaltender Linden Rowat had a strong game in net for the Pats, and the Tips gave up goals from bounces. The result was an evenly-played game where Everett never seemed a threat to win.
The first period was interesting, as there were five penalties called and all five went against Everett, four coming in the final 7:18. Some of those calls seemed pretty tame. But the power plays eventually evened up and Everett never was able to capitalize on its chances, looking ineffectual with the advantage.
The one good piece of news for Everett: The Tips were not called for having too many men on the ice.
TURNING POINT
Everett had a full two minutes of five-on-three early in the second period with a chance to tie it up. However, the Tips couldn’t capitalize — didn’t really even threaten — and Everett never had another good chance to equalize.
HIT OF THE DAY
In the game’s first five minutes Everett’s Jordan Mistelbacher put a crunching hit on Logan Pyett against the boards behind the Regina goal.
THREE STARS
First star: Linden Rowat, Regina. Unquestionably the best player in the game, turning an evenly-played game into a 3-0 victory.
Second star: Nick Ross, Regina. Played solid on defense for the Pats.
Third star: Jeff Regier, Everett. The 16-year-old won his fight against the 20-year-old Troy Ofukany.
The Herald’s honorable mention: Lukas Vartovnik, Everett. Showed the most hustle among Everett’s forwards and was thus the most effective.
LINEUP NOTES
Everett welcomed center Zack Dailey back to the lineup. Dailey missed the previous two games because of a wrist injury and was a question mark for this weekend. However, he returned ahead of schedule. Right wing Dan Gendur (shoulder) and defenseman Dane Crowley (concussion) were out injured. Left wing Tyler Eskesen was a healthy scratch. Call-up right wing Cameron Abney has returned to his PIJHL team.
For Regina, 15-year-old Jordan Weal, the B.C. Major Midget League’s leading scorer, made his third appearance during the Pats’ swing through the U.S. Division, and 17-year-old left wing Todd Kennedy made his WHL debut. Left wing Josh Elder was scratched because of a concussion. Forwards Cody Hanson and Rudolf Cerveny and defensemen Spencer Fraipoint and Juraj Valach were healthy scratches.
