Mill Creek’s newest annexation is inching closer to being finalized.

Snohomish County last week adopted an agreement with the city of Mill Creek that covers the transition of responsibilities for planning, permitting and other issues. The agreement will be presented to the Mill Creek City Council for adoption on Nov. 15, according to the city’s Web site.

The city is close to finishing negotiations on an agreement for ongoing maintenance responsibilities for 35th Avenue SE., as well as certain storm water detention facilities.

“We are hopeful of approving that agreement at the Nov. 15 City Council meeting,” city manager Steve Nolen said on the city’s Web site.

Both agreements need to be finalized by Dec. 1 for the annexation to take effect.

The City Council approved annexing approximately 550 acres northeast of the city on Oct. 25. The annexation is the largest in Mill Creek history and has an estimated population of 2,200 residents. The city, with the help of a private firm, will conduct an official census of the area once the annexation is complete.
