Arlington

Planners’ meeting moved this week

The city’s planning commission would normally meet tonight but has changed dates this week because of the Labor Day holiday.

The commission, which normally meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month, changed its meeting to 7 p.m. Thursday at the City Council Chambers, 110 E. Third St.

The City Council, which would have met Monday, switched its meeting to tonight.

Edmonds

Annual car show set for Saturday

Edmonds’ annual car show and dance, “Hot Autumn Nites,” will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Fifth Avenue and Main Street in downtown Edmonds.

A chili and salsa contest is scheduled, games are planned and prizes will be awarded. Food, beer, wine and ice cream also will be available. The New Blues Brothers will play from 6 to 10 p.m. at Dayton Place at Fourth Avenue and Dayton Street.

Public meetings for Port of Everett

Two public meetings are scheduled regarding the North Marina Project.

A workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and a public hearing and decision meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18. Both meetings will be held at Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave., in the Weyerhaeuser Room on the fourth floor.

Repairs at library in Oak Harbor

The Oak Harbor Library will be closed for repairs Wednesday through Friday.

Friends of the Oak Harbor Library have scheduled a book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the library’s meeting room, which will not be blocked by the repair work.

The library is at 1000 SE Regatta Drive.

Lake Stevens

Drainage district board to meet

The Drainage Improvement District 8 board of commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the district office, 1911 Vernon Road, for the regular business meeting. The meeting is open to the public.

Center offers baby-sitting class

The Lake Stevens Family Center is offering a basic baby-sitting training course from 3 to 5:45 p.m. Sept. 21 and 22 at the center, behind the library off Main Street in downtown Lake Stevens.

A $5 donation to cover the cost of materials is suggested.

The class includes first aid, basic child development, establishing a business ethic, personal safety and how to appropriately resolve conflicts. It also will cover basic child-care needs, changing diapers, child-appropriate activities, promoting good behavior and eating habits, and more. The class is open to those 11 and older.

Lynnwood

Register for parks classes online

Anyone wishing to register for city of Lynnwood parks and recreation classes can now do so online.

A new Web page, recconnect.ci.lynnwood.wa.us, allows customers to browse and search for classes, sign up and pay with a Visa or MasterCard.

Marysville

Library offers Internet class

The Marysville Public Library will present a free Basic Internet Essentials class for adults from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at the library, 6120 Grove St.

Participants will learn how to find information on the Internet, how to use search engines and how to use the Sno-Isle Regional Library System’s Web site, and will explore some recommended Web sites.

Participants must register in advance and can do so in person or by calling the library at 360-658-5000.

Touch a Truck links kids, big rigs

The City of Marysville invites you to come out and kick the tires at Touch a Truck, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Marysville Junior High School’s Asbery Field, 1605 Seventh St.

Children of all ages will have the opportunity to sit in the seat, honk the horns until noon, and kick the tires of some of the city’s biggest rigs. Vehicles include dump trucks, a backhoe, a vactor truck, police vehicles, a street sweeper, fire engines, garbage trucks, a Community Transit bus, a Snohomish County Search and Rescue vehicle and an aid car.

Also at the event will be the Marysville PTA, which is co-sponsoring a youth bike helmet fitting. The PTA will provide information for parents and children on the importance of bike safety. Helmets will be available for $9.

Monroe

Center helps hurricane victims

The East County Senior Center is collecting donations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina from its members and visitors.

It also will hold a special collection in conjunction with the autumn social and dance being held at the center Sept. 10. The Moonlight Swing Orchestra is performing that evening and will kick off the collections with its own donations. All donations received will be sent to the Red Cross.

Businesses rally over sign rules

The Snohomish Chamber of Commerce will host a Rally for Reasonable Signs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Collector’s Choice Restaurant, 120 Glen Ave.

Many business owners believe a new sign ordinance passed in May adversely affects their businesses and have asked the chamber to petition the City Council to revise the ordinance.

School reunion for pre-‘61 classes

An All-School Reunion is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Twin City Elementary School, 26211 72nd Ave. NW.

The reunion is for graduates of Stanwood, Lincoln or Twin City high schools before 1961. Spouses and friends are welcome.

Cost is $5 at the door.
