Search for Edmonds man ends happily

EDMONDS – A search Jan. 19 for a 71-year-old Edmonds man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease ended after more than five hours when an employee of a Shoreline hotel called police after noticing the man was disoriented.

Kenneth B. Pederson reportedly left his Edmonds home in the 20000 block of Maplewood Drive between 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. last Wednesday while his wife went to the store, police officials said. When she returned, she discovered her husband was no longer at their home.

Edmonds police and friends of Pederson searched the neighborhood and outlying areas from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. but were not able to locate him.

At about 4:30 p.m., Pederson reportedly walked into the Day’s Inn hotel, located at 19527 Aurora Avenue in Shoreline, according to an Edmonds police press release. Hotel staff said they noticed the man seemed disoriented and called Shoreline police, who told them the man was most likely Pederson. Edmonds police officials were contacted and soon after picked Pederson up at the hotel and returned him to his home.
