Originals, classics in children’s theatre lineup

Seattle Children’s Theatre has released its lineup for the 2013-2014 season with two new shows and a classic tale about the importance of telling the truth, in a season that showcases strong characters.

Shows are performed at Seattle Children’s Theatre, 201 Thomas St., Seattle. The new season lineup is:

“Pippi Longstocking: The Family Musical”: Sept. 26. Rule-breaker and fiercely independent, Pippi takes center stage in the circus, wrestles the strongman, outwits burglars and dodges the orphanage, all the while dodging adults who want her to conform. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

“Dot &Ziggy”: Oct. 3. An interactive way for newcomers to enjoy the theater and help Dot and Ziggy learn how to share. For newborns through age 4.

“James and the Giant Peach”: Nov. 21. James’ amazing journey inside a giant peach with human-sized insects tests the groups’ ability to work together but James leads the way, all the way to the Empire State Building. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

“Pinocchio”: Feb. 6. Gepetto crafts a wooden boy but Pinocchio wants to be real. He heads off to school for that purpose but gets tricked out of his only possessions. With help from cricket and a fairy, Pinocchio gets on the right path. Recommended for ages 6 and up.

“The Boy at the Edge of Everything”: March 6. This show involves two boys, lots of fireworks and a collision of their worlds, that turns into an epic adventure through space and time. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

“Art Dog”: April 10. Arthur is a museum guard dog by day; at night he becomes superhero Art Dog but he also becomes the suspect in an art crime. Art Dog has to save himself and collar the real thieves, while keeping his true identity a secret. Recommended for ages 5 and up
