Sale benefits recovery program

A garage sale fundraiser for New Heart Place runs 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday ($5 entrance fee until noon), 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Westgate Chapel, 22901 Edmonds Way, Edmonds. New Heart Place is a residential recovery program for men with addictions.

Celebrate with Search & Rescue

Snohomish County Volunteer Search & Rescue celebrates 50 years this summer. An open house with family-friendly activities is planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 19. Helicopters, rescue boats and working dogs will be on display. The location is Taylor’s Landing at 5506 Old Machias Road, Snohomish. RSVP requested.

Meet local police

The Edmonds Police Department plans an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 27. The event sponsor is the Edmonds Police Foundation. The address is 250 Fifth Ave. N, and parking usually is available. The invite reads, “tour the building, see the cars, meet our people!”

Barbecue and swing

A Backyard BBQ Bash is set for Aug. 5 to benefit the East County Senior Center, 276 Sky River Parkway, Monroe. Doors open at 5 p.m. The event features a barbecued pulled pork dinner and music and dancing to the Moonlight Swing Orchestra. Beer, wine and margaritas will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15; pre-pay and get a free drink ticket.

Hawks-themed benefit for Tots

A “Fit to Serve: Christmas in July” community outreach program is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at Toys R Us, 1325 SE Everett Mall Way. On the schedule are visits from former Seahawks players and U.S. Marines, a Hawk Wheels car exhibit, an obstacle course, a bouncy house, vendors, a raffle, and a silent auction to benefit Toys for Tots.

Free shredding

WSECU offers a free Shred and Share event, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at its Everett branch, 404 128th St. SW. Shred up to three boxes of documents and bring a donation of boxed or canned nonperishable food for the Everett Food Bank.

Emergency shelter, food grants

The Snohomish County Emergency Food and Shelter Board is accepting applications for grant requests from emergency shelter and emergency food programs in Snohomish County. Funds will be awarded from the National Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. Nonprofits and government agencies can apply. The deadline to apply is Aug. 18.
