Seahawks 13, Cardinals 10 quick postgame notes

Well it certainly wasn’t pretty at times, but the Seahawks have their first win of the year after holding on for a 13-10 victory over the Cardinals. Seattle and Arizona are both 1-2, one game behind San Francisco in the NFC West.

A few quick notes and quotes before getting back to writing for tomorrow’s paper:

–Sidney Rice (8 catches, 109 yards) looks to be every bit the playmaker Seattle was looking for when they signed him to a five-year deal.

This is a bid deal to us to get him back on the field,” Pete Carroll said. “He’s a fantastic football player and he’s going to make a difference for us.”

–The defense did its job. And then some. Sure Arizona moved the ball at times, but when it mattered most, the defense held its ground. Following the go-ahead score by Tarvaris Jackson, the Cardinals ended up with six more possession. They did not score on any of them.

–Mike Williams won’t be happy about this game. Sure the Seahawks won, but the receiver who had 22 catches in two games against Arizona last year was shut out today and only targeted once. Both Carroll and Jackson made a point of saying that they need to get Williams the ball more.

–Jackson won’t be easily rattled. No, his numbers have not been impressive, and yes, he heard the boos from Seahawks fans, but that didn’t get to him. Jackson knows he’s replacing a Seattle icon, and knows there are plenty of people here that don’t believe in him, but that won’t change anything he does.

“If they keep booing and we keep winning, I don’t care,” he said.

–LB Matt McCoy (head) was the only apparent injury suffered by Seattle. Carroll said he thinks McCoy will be fine: “He was smiling and all that, so I think he’s OK. He might not know where he is, I don’t know. I’m not sure, but he was smiling and he said he’s OK.”
