LYNNWOOD — Jean Kellogg won family bragging rights.
Kellogg, the coach of the Lynnwood High School volleyball team, watched her Royals sweep Shorewood 3-0 in a Wesco 3A match Wednesday night. Her daughter Marianne is a junior setter for the Thunderbirds.
“I want to beat my kid,” Jean Kellogg said. “She beat me last year.”
Lynnwood won 27-25, 25-4, 25-14 to improve to 3-1 in league and 4-1 overall. Shorewood dropped to 2-2, 3-3.
After a tight first game that saw Lynnwood rally from an 8-1 deficit, the Royals dominated the second contest.
“After that (first game), we relaxed and played one of our best games of the year,” Jean Kellogg said. “Everything went right. Ever hit was down, every pass was right there. … We knocked them out of their rhythm.”
The sweep surprised the Lynnwood coach.
“I did not expect this,” she said, “especially after the first game. My kids just played very well.”
Senior setter Jennifer Tsuji had 25 assists for the Royals. Senior Arianna Garcia added nine kills and nine digs, and junior Kaitlin Evers contributed 10 kills.
Junior Monica Postor had nine kills for Shorewood. Senior Dana Brindle had 13 digs and Marianne Kellogg collected 14 assists.
