Last minute gifts for Mom

The Mother Lovin’ Market runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Ken Baxter Community Center, 514 Delta Ave., Marysville. More than 45 vendors will be selling handmade and homegrown items. Admission is free.

The Camano Animal Shelter Association holds a plant and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Island County Multipurpose Center, 141 E Camano Drive, Camano Island. While you’re there, vote on artwork submitted by local children for Draw-A-Cat and Draw-A-Dog contests.

Flag exchange

Fleet Reserve Association Branch 170 of Everett hosts a flag exchange and open house starting at 2 p.m. Saturday at 6802 Beverly Blvd. Bring your old U.S. flag to be properly retired and receive a new one. The Sauerkraut Band provides live music. Spaghetti and horse races, too.

Lions donation drive

The Everett Central Lions Club will collect donations 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the QFC at 50th Street and Evergreen Way to kick off White Cane Days, part of Lions Sight and Hearing Month. Donations of used eyeglasses and hearing aids also are welcome.

AAUW honors STEM teens

The Edmonds SnoKing branch of the American Association of University Women will recognize its high school STEM scholars, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in Snoqualmie Hall 212 on the campus of Edmonds Community College. Mel Cosette of the National Resource Center for Materials Technology Education also speaks.

Church records for family research

Janet Camarata discusses the “Hidden Finds in Church Records” at the next meeting of the Genealogical Society of South Whidbey Island, 12:45 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church Annex at Highway 525 and Woodard Road in Freeland. Church histories include early church experiences, historical images, biographies, genealogies, interviews and stories.

HEADS UP

City names director

The city of Everett has appointed a new economic development director, Dan Eernissee. He previously worked in Shoreline.

His job will be to work with others “to recruit new jobs and businesses to Everett and to support and retain existing employers and industries,” according to the mayor’s office. He starts in June.

Everett’s previous economic development director, Lanie McMullin, retired in February.
