Hear about trails in Snohomish, Island counties

Guidebook author Craig Romano will speak at the Everett Mountaineers’ open house at 7 p.m. May 1 at Snohomish PUD headquarters, 2320 California St., Everett.

Romano will talk about his latest book, “Urban Trails: Everett,” which highlights trails in Snohomish and Island counties.

Boating season kicks off with parade at the Port of Everett

Take part in a parade of vessels for the start of boating season at the Port of Everett on May 11.

The Mukilteo Yacht Club is set to celebrate opening day with a blessing of the fleet at 11 a.m., then a judged decorated boat and sailors’ costume parade at noon. All boaters are invited to participate in the parade and are asked to register ahead of time by contacting the club at myc@mukilteoyachtclub.com or 425-636-3310.

Landlubbers can enjoy the spectacle from several restaurants along the Port of Everett waterfront, Boxcar Park and Jetty Landing.

Reel in the fun at this annual fishing event for children, teens

Kids ages 4 to 14 are invited to discover the basics and fun of fishing at the annual Kids Fish-In from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 11 at Thornton A. Sullivan Park, 11405 W. Silver Lake Road, Everett.

This free event teaches children basic fishing skills with volunteer guides from Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club. Participants can register for a one-hour lesson during sessions offered throughout the day. Children should bring their own rods, reels and tackle boxes, if they have them. There will be a limited supply of equipment to borrow.

GRANDfamilies day at Imagine Children’s Museum

This monthly event gives exclusive time to grandparents who are raising grandchildren full-time. Experience hands-on interactive play during a less crowded time. Admission is free. It takes place the first Sunday of each month from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The next one is May 5. The museum’s address is 1502 Wall St., Everett. Pre-registration is required.

Better Babysitters Class instructs attendees in the basics of child care

This class will teach responsible babysitting skills including infant and child care, safety and injury prevention, how to handle emergencies and business tips. The class is open to tween and preteens ages 11 to 14. It will take place 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 at Seattle Children’s North Clinic, 1815 13th St., Everett. The class cost $45 to attend.
