The city of Mill Creek is taking applications for City Council position 5 after Mark Harmsworth resigned, effective Dec. 31.

State law requires the council to fill the vacancy by interim appointment until the next election in November 2015. Applicants must be registered voters who have lived in Mill Creek for at least one year.

The council is looking for candidates who are interested in city issues, municipal-planning and policy-setting. Members are expected to interview applicants at the Jan. 13 meeting. The appointment may be made at that public meeting.

People can apply for the appointment by completing an application on the city’s website and sending a letter of interest to City Hall by 5 p.m. on Jan. 6. The address is 15728 Main Street, Mill Creek, 98012. Materials may also be emailed to kelly@cityofmillcreek.com.

For more information, call City Clerk Kelly Chelin at 425-745-1891.

Local crafters and artisans sell fresh-baked bread, jams and jellies, fudge, locally-roasted coffee and wines from around the state. Other gifts for sale include soaps, lotions, pottery, jewelry, baskets and toys. About 35 vendors are participating in this year’s Handmade Holidays.
