PARIS — Workers in central France have eased off a threat to blow up their auto parts factory unless they receive an extra 30,000 euros ($42,270) each, removing gas canisters that surrounded the plant.
The workers placed canisters around the New Frabris factory following its closure and threatened to blow it up by July 31. They demanded compensation from clients Renault SA and PSA Peugeot-Citroen.
Workers voted Monday to remove the canisters ahead of talks with Industry Minister Christian Estrosi.
Union leader Guy Eyermann says if the meeting isn’t fruitful, the gas canisters will be back within 15 minutes.
The threat is the latest extreme tactic used by French workers angry over layoffs. Workers at two other factories threatened similar actions.
