EVERETT — Entrepreneurs — and people who want to invest in them — are being asked to attend an informational session at the Port of Everett next week.
The NW Innovation Resource Center is holding a free reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Port of Everett in the Blue Heron Room to talk about the First Look Forum.
Entrepreneurs can meet the organizing groups, learn more about what to expect and get a head start in applying for the forum for this fall. Investors can get a chance to network with other investors and entrepreneurs.
The NW Innovation Resource Center is a nonprofit based in Bellingham with the goal of nurturing entrepreneurs and startups in the five counties of northwest Washington — Snohomish, Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan counties.
The NW Innovation Resource Center is already working with several entrepreneurs in Snohomish County, said Diane Kamionka, the group’s interim executive director.
One of their efforts is the First Look Forum, which gives selected businesses coaching and direction on starting innovative companies.
The First Look Forum is held each spring by the nonprofit Washington Technology Industry Association in Seattle. Last year, the association wanted to hold a second one of these forums outside of Seattle and worked with the Resource Center to hold the event in Bellingham.
About a dozen finalists gave their presentations to a room of 60 to 70 investors, Kamionka said.
A second First Look Forum is planned for this fall and the group’s are hoping to attract entrepreneurs and potentials investors from Snohomish County. The nonprofits are working with the city of Everett, Economic Alliance Snohomish County, Port of Everett, and Snohomish County.
Also, the NW Innovation Resource Center plans to hold a seminar later this month to help people promote their invention or new product.
The seminar aims to hold people create a product package, build social media skills and craft the perfect video pitch. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon July 25 at Monroe Hall at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood.
