Subaru is a long-time Northwest favorite, thanks in part to the all-wheel drive function included with every vehicle.
But it’s more than that. Each vehicle, especially the SUV’s, are functional, practical, built with safety in mind, and loaded with creature comforts to deliver value to its loyal customer base.
The 2024 Subaru Outback Touring XT is no different.
Powered by a 2.4-liter, DOHC, turbocharged BOXER engine mated to an eight-speed high-torque, Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission, the combination provides 260 horsepower, 277 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA-estimated 29 miles per gallon fuel economy down the highway.
Outback Touring XT seats five adults with a generous cargo area with liner that protects carpeting from various insults. The split-fold second row seats fold flat, providing even more room when required.
The 2024 Outback delivers the optimal blend of SUV capability and car-like ride and handling with standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Active Torque Vectoring, Vehicle Dynamics Control and X-MODE with Hill Descent Control. The 8.7 inches of ground clearance is greater than that of many SUVs, yet the Outback maintains a comfortably low step-in height for both front and rear passenger entry.
X-MODE is a cutting-edge feature designed to enhance control and stability in challenging driving conditions. By optimizing engine output, transmission, and the all-wheel-drive system, X-MODE provides improved traction on surfaces like mud, snow, and steep inclines. This technology reflects the brand’s dedication to adventure, safety, and reliability, providing drivers with enhanced confidence on the road.
Outback is available in Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, Limited, Touring, and XT trim levels. Pricing starts under $30k and climbs to $45,000 for the top-of-the-line trim.
The 2024 model receives a more rugged look thanks to a new front fascia, redesigned bumper, and LED fog lights paired with a more prominent front grille. Updates have also been made to Outback’s comprehensive list of standard features.
Subaru’s award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is now standard on all trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, along with a 360-degree heated steering wheel.
My tester came equipped with a power moonroof; STARLINK 11.6-inch multimedia navigation system; Harman Kardon premium audio system with 576-watt equivalent amplifier, and DriverFocus. Other goodies include a180-degree front view monitor, automatic power-folding mirrors, and Nappa leather heated/ventilated front seats.
Completing the lengthy list of standard equipment are smart phone connectivity, power moonroof, hands-free left gate, four USB ports, auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone climate control, rear-view camera, and roof railing with integrated retractable cross bars.
Helping put the Outback Touring XT into the buy category is its Eyesight Driver Assist safety suite. Highlights include advanced adaptive cruise control that automatically maintains a safe distance from the car ahead; lane departure and sway warning alerts; lane keep assist helps you stay centered; pre-collision braking; emergency automatic steering; and an alert system that warns weary drivers it’s time for a break.
