Bow down to the Dawg burger at Mukilteo Lodge

There was no way I could order anything but the Husky Big Dawg burger.
It’s a generous portion of grilled Wagyu Kobe beef and melted swiss cheese, served on a fresh, toasted bun. The homemade potato chips were thick, crunchy and delicious.
The Husky burger, named for the hometown team,
is of course the best on the menu. The other nine options, named for each of the other teams in the Pac-10, just don’t hold up.
You could argue the Wazzu burger, a full-pound patty, would be satisfying. Or the U of O cheeseburger (no ground duck) would be great; after all the team was ranked No. 2 in the country.
I stuck with the purple and gold.
The Dawg burger ($13.95) dripped delightfully all over my chin. I would rate it a 13-0, much better than 7-6, the Huskies’ record last season. Now if only the Dawgs could play football the way the Mukilteo Lodge Sports Grille makes burgers.
The restaurant easily could be mistaken for a ski chalet. There’s a large stone fireplace, exposed beams and big wooden booths. The 65-foot bar is crafted from a single old-growth Ponderosa pine.
You don’t have to go to the mountains: The Lodge is on the Mukilteo Speedway, a few miles from the ferry dock.
There are 10 big-screen TVs and the bar serves nearly three-dozen beers on tap and stocks more than 100 kinds of Scotch whisky plus a variety of tequillas and other alcoholic brews.
On a recent Friday night, I went with a friend and we found the service friendly and attentive. The place was packed, always a good sign.
To start, we ordered the popcorn shrimp ($6.95), tiny bits of nicely coated and fried shrimp with a homemade barbecue sauce for dipping.
We split a caesar salad ($8.95) that was fresh and had a lemony zing.
I added grilled mushrooms to my Dawg burger for an extra $1.
My friend ordered the prawn linguini ($14.95). Six giant grilled prawns were served atop nicely cooked pasta tossed with roasted cherry tomatoes and fresh asparagus in a butter sauce. The asparagus could have been cooked a bit longer, but otherwise the dish was fresh and tasty.
There’s a full selection of steaks, grilled salmon, ribs and a menu reserved for football watching that includes food to fuel a hungry fan: chicken wings, tacos, French toast and biscuits and gravy.
No meal is complete without dessert. We split the molten chocolate lava cake ($8.95). It came warm, topped with a raspberry sauce and a bursting, gooey interior.
Now, let’s hope the Huskies, Seahawks, Mariners, Storm, AquaSox and Silvertips can win a few. At the Mukilteo Lodge, the score doesn’t matter that much. You’ll leave a winner having had good food in a comfortable and fun setting.
