Reading the labels of health and beauty products is a disconcerting process.
Even supposedly safe and health-conscious items include ingredients that sound like they were created in a Martian lab.
Many of those ingredients, according to the Environmental Working Group, are untested or associated with cancer, toxicity, allergies, contamination, skin irritation and other concerns.
And, of course, every cosmetics company says their products are natural and safe, even if they’re not.
Fortunately, you can find out the degree of risk in the products you use at the EWG’s cosmetic safety database called Skin Deep.
It shows a range of risk from zero to 10 for many ingredients and products.
I was surprised to find that the word “fragrance” on a label is just code for “hidden chemicals,” thanks to the totally under-regulated cosmetics industry.
