Everett’s Moondoggies to host party at Skate Deck

Members of the Everett band the Moondoggies have been hard at work on their new album, “Adios I’m A Ghost,” since late 2012.

Now, the band’s third full- length album is set for release on Aug. 13.

The Moondoggies wanted to do something a little different to celebrate the release of the new album, so they are coming home to host a listening party Aug. 10 at the Everett Skate Deck near Silver Lake.

After that, they’ll have release shows on Aug. 16 and 17 at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, then hit the road to tour.

“This album was recorded at Bear Creek Studios a couple miles south of here,” band member Jon Pontrello said, “and so we thought before we kick off the album and tour all around the country we could do something to celebrate where the music came from with family, friends and fans.”

Band members said they’ve been talking about the idea of a listening party at the Skate Deck since they were in the studio in September. At the time, they all thought it was nothing more than a joke.

“We were talking about having a listening party, the Skate Deck started as a joke, but I also thought it would be really cool,” Pontrello said.

“It took me a long time to get in touch with them, but when I finally did, they were stoked on it too.”

Like a lot of kids who grew up in Snohomish County, the members of the Moondoggies enjoyed many school trips and birthday parties at the Everett Skate Deck, so it is also a little slice of nostalgia for the band.

“We all grew up going to the Skate Deck,” Pontrello said. “Schoolwide skate parties were a thing we all looked forward to in elementary school.”

The party will go from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Skate Deck, 9700 19th Ave. SE , Everett, 425-337-0202. “Adios I’m A Ghost” will start playing at 6 p.m. and Gold Van Records will bring its mobile record shop to the Skate Deck to sell records.

Admission is $5 at the door and includes skate rental.
