What: Camellia x williamsii “Brigadoon” blooms in midwinter, making it a welcome sight on rainy gray February days. It produces plenty of large, bright-pink flowers tinged with silver. As an added bonus, it drops its faded blooms, unlike many of the Japanese camellias.

Where: This camellia grows best in light and open shade, or in full sun away from hit, reflected heat. It prefers rich, well-drained soil. A sheltered location neat the house will help protect flowers from hard frosts.

Size: Grows to 8 feet tall by 8 feet wide in 10 years.

Care: Must be watered regularly in late summer to ensure a strong flower-bud set for the winter bloom.
