Sample traditional festive favorites at the Nordic Heritage Museum this weekend.

Yulefest, the museum’s annual Christmas festival, features a wide range of Scandinavian arts and crafts, food and drink, and holiday traditions.

Sample seasonal foods, including ableskivers, a little round pancake ball filled with apple, served both hot and cold.

Another Scandinavian treat served at Yulefest is glogg, a warm drink spiced with almonds, raisins and cinnamon. Some recipes call for wine or stronger spirits. Many are sweetened with honey, caramelized sugar or brown sugar.

Rommegrot, Norwegian Christmas pudding, will be available in the auditorium, along with gjetost (caramelized goat cheese) on a raisin roll or a heart-shaped waffle.

While there, guests can peruse tables of goodies for sale, including packaged cookies, krumkaka and buttercups.

Listen to the sounds of the Finnish Choral Society, Lilla Spelmanslag or the Norwegian Men’s Chorus, while shopping. Entertainment also includes dance performances by Nordiska Folkdancers, Katrilli Finnish Folkdancers or Leikarringen Norway Folkdancers.

A craft room for the kids offers time to tour the museum before heading home.

Nordic Heritage Museum is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2, $1 ages 5 to 12.

The museum is at 3014 NW 67th St., Seattle.
