“The King and I”: This is the classic tale of clashing cultures with Anna the British governess going head to head with the King of Siam over how to raise the king’s many children.

Over time, Anna and the King build a special bond against the backdrop of the Rodgers and Hammerstein score that includes “The March of the Siamese Children,” “Shall We Dance,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers” and “Getting to Know You” as sung by the Lyric Light Opera cast.

“The King and I” opens at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at McIntyre Hall, 2501 E. College Way, Mount Vernon. Showtimes are 2 p.m. Sunday, 7:30 p.m. June 25 to 26 and 2 p.m. June 27.

Tickets start at $15. Call 360-416-7727, ext. 2, or 866-624-6897, ext. 2, or look online at www.mcintyrehall.org.

“Female of the Species”: The Seattle premiere at ACT Theatre of this farce that slays the feminist movement is loosely based on a real event.

According to press material about the show, the story line follows the incident when feminist icon and author Germaine Greer was attacked and held hostage in her home in the British countryside by a college co-ed obsessed with the famous writer.

“The Female of the Species” opens at 7:30 tonight at ACT, 700 Union St., Seattle. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and Sundays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through July 18.
