People seeking gifts for difficult-to-shop-for family members will find all sorts of ideas at the National Geographic warehouse sale today through Sunday.

National Geographic is bringing 13 48-foot trucks loaded with items from gift catalogs and sale items from the past five years to the Washington State Convention &Trade Center for a three-day sale. Admission is free.

Items in the sale include educational aides, several hundred book titles, videos and DVDs. Additional items available for purchase include maps, globes, toys and clothing.

You’ll also find items such as candles, calendars, puzzles, pendants, talking microscopes and travel accessories – at up to 80 percent discounts.

“Thousands of people attend our warehouse sales, so they are really the largest events that the Society conducts,” said Steve Hubbard, director of operations for National Geographic. “The Seattle sale offers a perfect opportunity for residents to make a good start on their holiday shopping.”

National Geographic Society’s largest yearly event offers shoppers the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts from a warehouse stocked with items not found elsewhere.

In addition, shoppers can enter to win copies of the newly released “National Geographic Atlas of the World, Eighth Edition.”

National Geographic members and teachers have received postcards that they can bring to the sale in exchange for a free calendar.

Founded in 1888, the National Geographic Society is one of the largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations in the world. Proceeds from the sale help fund the Society’s more than 7,500 research projects and support an education program combating geographic illiteracy.
