Plants of merit: Blue lacecap hydrangea
Published 1:25 pm Wednesday, August 15, 2012
What: Both the color and the flower form of the blue lacecap hydrangea can take your breath away, especially when used as a dramatic focal point in the garden. Placed in the right location, these hydrangeas can draw the eye, immediately creating the “aha moment” we all seek in our gardens. They are especially lovely at dusk, creating a very restful mood in the border.
Sun or shade? They do well in dappled shade, but can also tolerate morning sun. Protect them from the midday heat.
Size: Depending on the variety, will grow to 4 to 5 feet tall
See it: At the Evergreen Arboretum &Gardens in the Woodland Garden; 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett; for more information see www.evergreenarboretum.com or call 425-257-8597.
