Liberal arts: Education expert Jennifer Jarrett will talk about the seven basic principles outlined in Oliver Van DeMille’s “A Thomas Jefferson Education: Teaching a Generation of Leaders for the Twenty-First Century” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the University Book Store at Mill Creek Town Center.

Jarrett will introduce Jefferson’s education theories and also recommend other books that discuss them.

Not just music Lovers of literature can truck on down to Bumbershoot this year for short literary readings by professional actors. As part of Town Hall Seattle’s literary series, ACT Theatre’s Kurt Beattie hosts this Bumbershoot event at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Leo K. Theatre at Seattle Center.

Mary Ewald will give a dramatic reading of “Junk Mail” by Rebecca Brown and Time Hyland will read Ryan Boudinot’s “Newholly.”

A Bumbershoot ticket will get you in to the readings and may be purchased at www.bumbershoot.org. Prices vary from $35 to $100 for a three-day pass. Call Town Hall at 206-652-4255 for more information.
