Lake Stevens High School literary magazine honored

Lake Stevens High School’s literary magazine, The Valkyrie, was one of five in the state of Washington to receive recognition.

The 2010 Valkyrie is a 40-page literary magazine, which includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, essays

and graphic arts written and produced by Lake Stevens High School students.

The Valkyrie received an above-average ranking in the 2010 National Council of Teachers of English program, which recognizes excellence in student literary magazines. More than 400 schools entered the competition.

Rotary club names student of the month

Molly Polk was named January student of the month by the South Everett Mukilteo Rotary Club.

Polk attends ACES High School where she was nominated for her outstanding academics and perfect attendance.

Local students on college dean’s lists

Abbey Nastan of Everett was named to the dean’s list at the University of Montana for fall semester.

Emma Wegermann of Mukilteo was named to the dean’s list at Carroll College in Montana for fall semester.

Robert Weinzierl of Everett was named to the dean’s list and the honor roll and earned a certificate of merit in Constitutional Law I, during fall term at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mich.

Jake Parduhn of Arlington was named to the dean’s list in the Foster School of Business Administration at the University of Washington.

Local students named to Whitworth society

More than 20 area students were named to the Whitworth University Laureate Society for fall semester.
